Hi Comrades,
Next week I’m doing an insane, gigantic art installation at the Standard, New York. For five days I’m creating five giant paintings on the themes of labor, war, truth, money and revolution- but with squid and animals in funny hats. It’s for the PEN World Voices Festival for International Literature, chaired this year by Salman Rushdie.
I dearly need my friends, fans, and hot girls and boys of the demimonde to keep me company during this art martyrdom. So if you ever wanted to meet me, now’s the time. You are highly, highly encouraged to come in costume.
Much love, and hope to meet you,
Molly

For PEN Festival, Molly Crabapple Creates Living Art Installation at the Standard Hotel
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Artist Molly Crabapple will spend 5 days as a living installation in the Plaza of the Standard, New York as part of the PEN World Voices Festival of International Literature, chaired this year by Salman Rushdie. Molly’s work will engage the human rights element that distinguishes PEN as one of the world’s most prestigious literary festival
Molly will, over the course of 5 days, create 5 giant paintings. The paintings, which form a loose narrative, use swirling detail, allegorical animals and Rube Goldberg machines to tell a story of dictatorship, wealth and freedom. Over the five days, Molly will be joined by muses from New York’s demimonde, and will create her art in view of the public.
Molly’s paintings will be auctioned at the end of the festival to support the PEN Foundation’s work.
This year, the Festival has formed a partnership with The Standard, New York and Friends of the High Line. The High Line will become both the literal and metaphorical spine of the Festival, with many events taking place on and around this Manhattan landmark and at the hotel. The Standard, New York and the High Line will both serve as the Festival’s hubs.
Molly will paint in the Plaza of The Standard, New York from April 25-29 (with breaks to paint at The Top of The Standard, and The Chelsea Piers).
