I loved her, with covetous girl love. I wanted her to stay. I wanted to fix everything. I wanted to help her, to make her my best friend and to make her happy. To snap her out of her depression, I joked, “We should show your fans our absinthe party.” I turned on my webcam, then tweeted that we were hanging out. Twenty people signed on to watch a livestream of us. We waved at them, holding our absinthe toward the camera. It felt like a small party, close-knit yet disembodied.
